    It's easy to become a local. Here's your step-by-step guide to settling in.

    *If you are looking to register your vehicle or update your driver's license, you will need to visit the Arkansas Revenue Department (ARD) located at 402 W. Vine Ave, Suite B in Searcy. However, there are a few steps that you will need to go through first.

    Registering Your Car

    You must assess your property at the White County Assessor's Office. This can be done by calling 501-279-6205 or online at https://countyservice.net. You will need to show proof of paid property taxes from where you are currently living. Plus, you will need to provide your current registration and proof of insurance.

    Getting Your Driver's License

    You will need to bring your current out of area driver's license. You will need to show proof that you are a current resident, a utility bill will suffice. You will also need proof of insurance. You will be required to take an eye exam at the Arkansas Revenue Department. While you are there, make sure you sign up to vote!

    Assess Your Property

    It is the responsibility of the taxpayer to report to the Assessor's Office a list of all personal property they are in possession of each year, beginning January 1st through May 31st. Failure to report by the May 31st deadline will result in a late assessment penalty of 10% on the total assessment value. Property to be assessed includes but is not limited to:

    • Boats
    • Motors
    • Trailers
    • ATVs
    • RVs
    • Stock Trailers
    • Livestock (used for commercial purposes)
    • Farm Equipment
    • All assets used in businesses

    Drivers Licenses & Tags

    You must have a current assessment of your vehicle when renewing your tags. To renew your driver's license and/or tags visit the Revenue Department located at 402 West Vine.

    Voter Registration

    You can obtain a Voter Registration Application at the White County Clerk's Office, local revenue office, library, post office, by calling the Arkansas Secretary of State Elections Division at 1-800-482-112, or you can register online. General election voting takes place November 11th. You must submit your application to an official voter registration agency or mail it no later than 30 days prior to an election in which you wish to vote.

    Postal Service

    Visit the Post Office main office located at 600 W Academy to place your new address on file.

    Enrolling Your Children in School

    Selecting a school is always a top priority for parents. Arkansas School Report Cards from the ADE Data Center can assist you in selecting which school is best for your student. Visit their website at myschoolinfo.arkansas.gov.

    If your child or children have been attending another school, you will need a copy of their school transcripts and a copy of their immunization schedule. For information on all our local schools visit our education page.
